Site Back Up

April 3rd, 2007

Sorry for the downtime the past few weeks. I did not realize there were problems with the site’s domain registrar which was causing the site to not be available. It took a while to notice this since I usually access the site from the local network which accesses the site differently than the rest of the Internet. I hope this hasn’t discouraged anyone from visiting or submitting photos to the site. I also hope to have a few more photos added onto the site in the near future!

A Happy New Year Addition

January 6th, 2007

Well this isn’t really a themed addition or anything, but it made a great title! Over the past several weeks I have received several new photos submitted to the site. There are several great ones that were sent and now they have been added to our gallery. I really appreciate your submitted photos!

Walt Chamberlain sent us a few that fit a couple different categories that he took in Las Vegas, Nevada:

Michael Alan French sent us one from a National Park explaining not to feed or molest the animals. I know I’ve seen one like this before, but to have another one is quite interesting to see. I wonder how many signs like this exist! [img]

Joel Ballon sent in a photo from a strip mall parking lot. The question is, what is the right time to park?

Russell Smith sent in this sign from a store that must have gone out of business because of a sign stating its up for lease. Fortunately whoever put the sign up covered up all but “Nuts” in the name of the business.

Mona sent a photo which must have been damaged and had this to say about it: “On Figueroa, Downtown LA, just before 3rd street! Public Works at their best! I think someone hit the sign, but at the same time… why is it 1/4 of the block away from 3rd street anyway? It’s right outside the Marriott entrance! Maybe since it implies you can’t go either way, you must go into the Marriott????”

Law Offices & Other Stupid Things

October 24th, 2006

Well since I haven’t posted any new pictures on here recently, figured I should post some photos that have been accumulating in my inbox. All of these were sent by Strange Signs fans!

We have four to add to the Road & Street Signs category which seems to be pretty popular.

Billie Schell sent us another “Dead End” sign near a cemetery. Apparently this is a pretty popular thing to do around the world as we have seen ones like this before!

Ginty Burns sent us another sign and this one is from New Zealand reminding everyone to carry a parachute for their car in the unfortunate event they drive off a cliff.

In England Maggie shows us how they put signs up to make sure you don’t hit the elderly people while driving, but what is to stop the elderly from hitting the non elderly?

And Anna sent us a unique information sign (assuming that is what it means!) but it makes you wonder, what is down that road?

And then we also have three more to add to the Businesses which also is a pretty darn popular as well.

These two law office photos are pretty ironic and they are both submitted by Billie Schell who took these pictures in Carrollton, GA. Apparently the lawyers in Carrolton are using their heads and swindling everyone (isn’t that true everywhere else?).

Ryan sums up this photo very nicely when he sent it do us: “Here’s one from India that I couldn’t pass up ’shooting’ for my personal collection. Apparently, the cops aren’t just sitting around eating donuts in this town!”

Crappy Signs & No Signs

June 23rd, 2006

I would like to thank Ginty Burns & Kelly Adams (respectivly) for the next two lovely photos. With these new photos, I also decided to include a comment on each submitted photograph to acknowledge the person who submitted the photo instead of just putting it in the story on the front page. When I get time, I will go thru photos already online and try and put names of the people who submitted them as best as I can. This will be common practice from now on.

Ginty sent this one of a bad typo at a food joint: [img]

Kelly said this one is all over rural roads of Idaho: [img]

Some Personal Photos

May 5th, 2006

My fiancee and I were cleaning some stuff out recently in our house and came across a roll of film which we new was a few years old, but not developed. Well, just for fun we thought we’d see if they still could be developed and maybe come across some good ole memories! Sure enough they turned out just fine, but they were actually from a trip to Boston I took in high school 6 years ago! This did bring back a couple memories – especially for a picture I thought I took but could never find. There were many little stickers which read “Eating Animals” placed on objects all over downtown Boston at that time and I thought this was quite the place to slap one (although I am not a vegitarian):

Putting a couple more pix on the site reminded me to go snap a quick picture of a auto parts store in town. It leads you to wonder if they deal just strictly in body auto parts!

Jeff H. also sent me this photo yesterday which really seems to go along with current events in a way:

Little Additions Make Big Progress: 300 Images!

April 6th, 2006

Thanks to your submissions, we have now hit 300 images in our gallery with these 2 new photos. Please keep them rolling in so in the near future we can get close to 400 perhaps?!

Jacob O. sent us this one … just your regular ole happy McDonald’s and some S.W.A.T. team members. Is this how they go eat lunch?

I also found one to add a while back, just never got to it. Make sure you read the guy’s orange sign near the back middle!

How Safe Is a Safety Ladder?

February 9th, 2006

Rod sent me this photo a week or so ago and I wonder the same thing he does: How safe can it really be?

From www.dictionary.com:

safe·ty
n. pl. safe·ties

1. The condition of being safe; freedom from danger, risk, or injury.
2. A device designed to prevent accidents, as a lock on a firearm preventing accidental firing.

When I read this definition, I would think that the risk involved should be minimal to none; so it must be pretty darn safe to use, huh? Otherwise, I really sure hope there is a safety ladder for the “safety ladder” just in case something does happen!

Welcome to Prison, Have a Nice Day

January 18th, 2006

** REPOST ** I had to repost & rewrite this after accidently deleting the whole article … I hope to never do that again!

I came across this picture taken a few years ago from the Federal Correctional Institute (a.k.a. prison) in Waseca, Minnesota. It ironically said on one side “Welcome” and the other side was “Have a Nice Day.” What a nice way to say hello to someone who may be spending the next several years there! Ironically, the sign welcoming you to Waseca says “For an hour … for a lifetime.” Well, the prison is a minimum security prison so people are sent there for life, so maybe the sign for Waseca should read “For an hour … for ten years.”
